Sound quality first
In selecting the drive units for the SX50, Cambridge Audio has put sound quality ahead of all other considerations. So although the drive units may not look impressive, they certainly sound it! A silk dome tweeter gives the ideal combination of crisp detail with a smooth refined sound, while matching this is a custom-designed woofer with a treated paper cone. This might sound basic, but the material gives the SX50 a fast, responsive sound quality with excellent bass timing.

Rigid MDF cabinets
Ensuring the drive units sound their very best, the SX50 uses rigid MDF cabinets. Designed to minimise standing waves, the cabinets help in producing a clean, accurate sound. For a well-balanced bass, even at lower volume levels, the SX50 speakers are rear ported. Placing the speakers close to a rear wall? Use the provided foam inserts to lessen the bass, for a sound more attuned to the room.

Designed with attention to detail
Although a budget speaker, there’s still been plenty of attention paid to the details. The drive units, for example, are not only recessed but also have hidden fixings. This gives better sound-staging for a more accurate rendition of the music. The cable terminals are chunky enough to accept thick cables and are also gold-plated for a lower resistance connection.
