Why GoldPlanar
The core team at GoldPlanar began designing and building quality audiophile headphones in 2010 as a major manufacturer for some of the most reputable brands in the industry. Planar Magnetic Headphone.
GL2000 is the newly launched flagship headphone, which adopts Planar Magnetic Diaphragm Driver. It is designed as a reference tuning headphone, utilizing full frequency adjustment and open back style. The internal driver design was modified from the standard drivers other manufacturers use, with the internal plate having been restructured to increase the surface area and airflow. This enhancement, along with the upgrade in magnet strength, makes the headphone even more responsive
Durable and Classic Design
The headphone is constructed of durable yet lightweight aerospace-grade aluminium and leather headband/ear cushions. We wanted our listeners to enjoy long listening-sessions, hence focused on a lightweight and flexible frame that would also endure the test of time. You will find the fit to be extremely comfortable, an added compliment to the extraordinary sound of the GL2000
Detachable 6N OCC Silver-plated Cable
The GL2000 comes with a 2 meters long 6N OCC silver-plated cable. As one of the materials with the best properties for electrical transmission, the full silver-plated cable will provide an unhindered Hi-Fi listening experience, specially enhancing the smoothness of the sound and warmth.
Innovative Design
As a reference headphone, we focused on providing a natural and realistic sound that is also comfortable and enjoyable. An open-back design was selected to create a translucent atmosphere and accurate stereo imaging. The internal cavity design was also machined to maximize airflow and focus the sound. .

OUR VERDICT
When the GL2000 package arrived with me, I was immediately impressed with the accessories that came with it. Most of the things that come with it are unheard of at the $640 mark, especially the tactical case.
The GL2000 is also well built, sturdy, and comfortable. The swivel in the cups ensures that it would fit well with a wider variety of head shapes and sizes. The foamed headband will ensure an even weight distribution so that they wouldn’t become heavy despite what the 550g weight might suggest.
Tonality leans to the warmer side, with a perceived lack of air. The presentation is respectably punchy with a healthy amount of bass weight but generally has a more plucked character. While the soundstage is not the widest, detail retrieval, imaging and directionality are some of the aspects that the GL2000 excels at.
Conclusion
This is my first contact with Gold Planar headphones and hopefully it wouldn’t be my last. Those AMT and ribbon headphones are hot as chillis and who knows…maybe I’ll give them a try in the future. I really don’t want to hype things that don’t deserve it, but I strongly believe GL2000 is worth its asking price in full. I specifically didn’t want to compare them with a lot of headphones, because I’ll be cutting down too many tall poppies.
There are only several planar headphones that can be considered as must-own at their respective price points and I’m easily adding the GL2000 to that list. If you love your bass impactful and hard slamming, your midrange dense and full-bodied, your treble clean and detailed without being unoffensive, then GL2000 is a very easy recommendation to make.
Conclusion
As I mentioned, the GL2000 is a good headphone. Especially if you’re new to this planar magnetic headphone hobby. You will be impressed by the transients, the speed, the texture, and the detail. However, if you already have experienced a lot of planar headphones, you may not be fully impressed.
I liked its musicality, tonality, and timbre altogether. It’s certainly a musical headphone with great texture and great bass performance, especially with leather pads. If clarity and spaciousness aren’t your priorities, you would like the GL2000. I already gave out the example here; if you like the legendary HD600, this is not your headphone. If you like the HD650 though, this might be a very good entrance to the planar magnetic headphone world.
Conclusion
At over $600, the Gold Planar GL2000s are entering premium price territory and face some very real competition from big name brands. Gold Planar had to do something special to break into this group, and with these headphones, they’ve succeeded.
Once you get used to the weight, you’re enveloped in a wall of sound that will entertain you for many hours, through many evenings of listening. Pick any favorite song, and you’re likely to hear something you haven’t heard before. Somehow it’s easier to follow whatever instrument you choose within the mix – the imaging is just superb.
They could be brighter at the top end, they could have faster transients, but their signature is close to the reference standard, making them a pleasure to listen to with a wide range of music, and an easy recommendation to make.
